Puppy proof studio

I’m lucky to have space at home to create a light airy studio in one half of a large north facing conservatory. I can leave half finished work in situ and each time I come to the house I can glance at the work in progress. This is often how I resolve or complete a piece of work, pondering, glancing, walking away, coming back to it.

I love to work “en plein air ” and ideally finish a painting on site. I like the energy, the urgency of it, I sketch in paint. However, increasingly I’m enjoying working in the studio, I often use memory, alongside paintings and photos as references, include collage in my work, painting over older images, layering on top of memories.

With the arrival of Meg, however, the space has been invaded. Brushes, easels, boards and even paintings are all potential toys. So bits of wood from the shed have been used to isolate my space. A puppy proof fence, establishing territory early on, making sure my space is preserved.
